You Can Prevent Colorectal Cancer

Are you 45+?* It's that time. We know...you don't like to talk about it.

But, what if we told you that the #2 leading cause of cancer death could be prevented by having a colonoscopy screening to find pre-cancerous growths? There are certain milestones in life we get excited about and others we dread. This doesn't need to be one of them.

Because if we can detect colorectal cancer earlier, why not get screened?

Taking The Fear Out Of Colonoscopies

Why do we take care of ourselves? Because we want more time with our family? Because we want more time doing the things we love? Of course!

Let's set the record straight:

  • Colonoscopies find and remove pre-cancer and cancerous polyps BEFORE symptoms develop
  • 95-98% of colorectal cancer is detectable with a colonoscopy
  • You'll likely only need 2-3 colonoscopies in your lifetime for continued prevention

Take the fear out of getting a colonoscopy by reading our Franciscan Health colonoscopy screening guide.

*New Recommendation Lowers Minimum Colonoscopy Screening Age To 45

Until recent years, colonoscopy screenings have been recommended to patients beginning on their 50th birthday for colorectal cancer prevention. Following guidance from the American Cancer Society and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, the minimum age for screening colonoscopy was lowered to 45 in Indiana and Illinois in 2020 and 2021.

Supporters of the age change hope this raises awareness for the importance of early detection. Physicians have long agreed that colorectal cancer is highly treatable in its early stages. Contact your insurance provider for coverage options.
