Neck pain can occur for any number of reasons. Many of the potential causes are nothing to worry about, but a few are serious. Sitting hunched over at a keyboard for hours on end is a common culprit. Another common cause is strain or injury from overexertion or misuse. Because you move your neck often, it is more susceptible to injury than many other parts of the body.
Neck pain can also be caused by trauma, such as from an accident, or by joint or bone abnormalities. The joints in the neck can also wear out due to age. The nerves in the spinal cord can also be pinched by bone spurs or herniated disks in the vertebrae of the neck.
