Code HELP: Emergency Assistance While in the Hospital
Code HELP extends Franciscan Health's commitment to providing the best care by empowering patients and their families to advocate for emergency assistance when needed. We invite and encourage our patients and their loved ones to be our partner in fulfilling the needs of those we serve.
The Code HELP protocol is currently being used at our hospitals in Northwest Indiana.
If you notice a sudden change in your loved one's condition while in the hospital, dial Code HELP from any hospital phone:
- Franciscan Health Crown Point: 2778
- Franciscan Health Michigan City: 1 + 555
- Franciscan Health Dyer: 44444
- Franciscan Health Hammond: 33333
Tell the operator you are calling a Code Help and provide your room number.
When to call Code HELP
A patient or family member can call on the Code HELP team if you notice a sudden and significant change in any of the following:
- Skin Color
- Movement (paralysis or seizure)
A call can also be made if the patient or family's concerns have not been recognized by our staff or if you believe that something is just not right.
When not to call Code HELP
The Code HELP team is available for critical and life threatening situations. If a patient or family member has a general question or would like to discuss any concern, feel free to speak with the nurse. The following issues can be taken up with the nursing staff and do not require a Code HELP call:
- General questions about care
- Meal and drink requests
- Personal care needs
- Medication timing
