High-risk or complicated pregnancies need specialized care. Franciscan Health's maternal-fetal medicine specialists work with your primary physician to provide counseling, screening and fetal diagnostic testing.
Specialized Maternal Fetal Medicine for at Risk Pregnancies
A Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist provides care for both the mother and fetus in a complicated pregnancy.
A Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist is an obstetrician/gynecologist who has received several additional years of training to gain practical experience and special competence in the management of obstetrical, medical and surgical complications of pregnancy.
Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists work with your physician to provide detailed ultrasound examinations, consultations, co-management or direct care for a high-risk pregnancy.
Whenever possible, patients with pre-existing medical conditions, history of, or prior obstetrical complications are encouraged to see us for preconception counseling. This provides the opportunity to discuss possible risks and prepare a plan of management designed to optimize the outcome of future pregnancies.
Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists
Most women seek consultation from a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist because they are “at risk” and considering pregnancy, are pregnant and have been classified as “high-risk” or “complicated” by their primary physician, or for their expertise in performing high resolution fetal ultrasound examinations.
Franciscan Health offers high-risk pregnancy management and consultation, routine and targeted obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound examinations, genetic counseling, prenatal screening and fetal diagnostic testing.
Our clinical staff includes:
