Accurate Diagnostic Tests for Neurological Disorders
The neurodiagnostic team at Franciscan Health serves both adults and children with a full range of services to detect and treat conditions of the central nervous system including the brain and spinal cord. Franciscan Health neurodiagnostic and electroneurodiagnostic testing services include:
An EEG (electroencephalogram) is used to measure brain activity. In an EEG, electrodes (little discs) are placed on the scalp with a paste to keep them in place. EEGs can be used to rule out seizures, sleep disorders, epilepsy and other conditions.
Nerve and muscle damage can be difficult to pinpoint and diagnose. Electromyography and nerve conduction studies help physicians better treat patients suffering from nerve or muscle dysfunction.
Evoked potentials measure the brain's responses to various stimuli by attaching electrodes to the scalp (like in an EEG). Evoked potentials testing can be used to assess brain function or diagnose conditions, such as multiple sclerosis.
Interoperative monitoring is the process of using diagnostic tests like EP, EEG and EMG during surgical procedures. This can be used to test responses and highlight injuries in your brain, muscles and nerves while surgery is in progress.
Neuroangiography is a safe and effective method to evaluate blood circulation in the head and the neck.
Neurodiagnostic tests have advanced significantly. Modern techniques allow medical professionals to peer inside the brain and monitor activities of the entire central nervous system. Technicians record electrical activity arising from the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, or motor nerve systems using a variety of techniques and instruments. Most tests are performed as outpatient tests. Results generally are available within a few days.
When are neurodiagnostics needed?
Our team of specially-trained technicians and board-certified neurologists use state-of-the-art technology to aid in the diagnosis of diseases and conditions such as:
