The oncology team at Franciscan Health can walk you through understanding pancreatic cancer and the best treatment options for each diagnosis.
Pancreatic cancer is cancer that starts in the cells of the pancreas gland. The pancreas gland is a large gland located behind the stomach and is responsible for producing insulin and other hormones which assist the body in processing sugars and digesting foods.
Your physician may choose to screen for pancreatic cancer based on a history of your symptoms (upper abdominal pain, blood clots, generalized weakness, weight loss, etc.). While it is often difficult to detect in the early stages, it can be diagnosed through a physical exam, blood tests, CT scan, or special test to view your pancreas.
