High-tech radiology tools to provide better care.

Radiology helps your health care team better understand structures inside your body and more accurately diagnose the cause of your symptoms.

Additionally, radiology can help your doctor:

  • Monitor how your body responds to a treatment for your disease or condition
  • Screen for different illnesses, such as breast cancer, lung cancer or heart disease

Franciscan Health – Lafayette East offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient radiology. Our MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine Departments are all accredited by the American College of Radiology.

We’ve partnered with Lafayette Radiology physicians to offer an on-site radiologist from 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. during the week and available for consultation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our team of certified and experienced radiology associates perform and interpret all imaging procedures on-site. Your radiology tests are read with the utmost precision and efficiently returned to your medical care team with the most accurate diagnosis possible. And, since our radiology equipment is all digital, the imaging technician has an immediate preview of your test results so they know the test is done right the first time.

Better yet, our private and secure wireless network means that the images are transferred to a board-certified radiologist within minutes, so they can get the test results back to your medical care team. Faster testing results mean a faster recovery time for you.

64 Slice CT Imaging

Breakthrough Technology: 64 Slice CT Imaging

64-Slice is ushering in a new era in CT imaging by giving physicians the ability to see more anatomical detail in only a fraction of the time. The 64-Slice CT scanner obtains high-resolution images as thin as a credit card, which are then used to create a 3D view of your anatomy for your doctor to analyze. The new technology is now available at Franciscan Health – Lafayette East.

The 64-Slice CT scanner can also capture the image of an organ in one second and can scan the entire body in ten seconds.

The reduced CT scanning time offers many advantages:

  • It can be difficult for young children to hold still for the longer times required with older scanners
  • People with breathing problems often find it difficult to hold their breath for 30 seconds or more, since that is simply longer than most patients with advanced pulmonary conditions can manage
  • There is no required recovery time; patients can leave as soon as their exam is complete
  • There are fewer risks compared to traditional angiography, since an arterial puncture is not required
It is less expensive than traditional angiography
  • Just as important, the amount of radiation a patient receives is also reduced with a new feature called dose modulation

How 64 Slice CT imaging works

As patients lie on a sliding table and hold their breath for approximately ten seconds, the machine silently and painlessly takes a series of 64 cross-sectional images, or “slices.” The computer system then quickly assembles thousands of these slices into three-dimensional images. With the click of a mouse, physicians can view any angle, isolate any organ, and zoom in on any spot.

To schedule an appointment, please call Central Scheduling at (765) 423-6170. Our normal hours of operation are Mon. - Fri. 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Most of our services are offered 24 hours, seven days a week.

Non-invasive imaging of the coronary arteries

When a cardiologist needs to diagnose coronary artery disease, cardiac catheterization is the best tool. However, the speed and sensitivity of 64-Slice CT now gives physicians a new way to view the heart and surrounding structures. Coronary CTA captures thousands of images of a beating heart in mere seconds. With exceptional detail, 64-Slice Coronary CTA allows physicians to view calcified and non-calcified soft plaque in the coronary arteries.

The 64-Slice CT captures images of anatomy as thin as a credit card. 3-Dl images are then formatted, allowing referring physicians and their patients to easily review and understand the findings of the CT scan.

Fast assessment of stroke patients

Once a stroke occurs, time matters. The faster a patient can be evaluated and treatment begins, the better the outcome may be. 64-Slice CT offers the speed and image resolution required for rapid examination of the blood vessels in the brain, enabling physicians to make a quick diagnosis of stroke and determine the extent of the damage.

A complete package

Although the 64-Slice CT is the new benchmark technology for CT Angiography, the scanner offers unparalleled flexibility. With full-function capability, all traditional CT studies can be performed on the 64-Slice CT, giving all patients access to the latest in CT technology.

Portable Testing

Bringing medical imaging tests to you

When you’re a patient in the hospital, you want to spend your time focusing on getting better. That means staying in one location and not being moved around from place to place.

Our mobile imaging equipment means we bring treatment to you so you don’t have to leave your room when you need an x-ray or an ultrasound test. And, since our equipment is all digital, the imaging technician will have an immediate preview of your test results so they know the test is done right the first time.

Better yet, our private and secure wireless network means that the images are transferred to a board-certified radiologist within minutes, so they can get the test results back to your medical care team. Faster testing results mean a faster recovery time for you.
