Obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) goes far beyond just delivering babies. Our OB/GYN doctors understand the changing health needs you face throughout your life.
What are obstetricians and gynecologists?
An obstetrician is a doctor who specializes in pregnancy services, from pre-conception through post-labor care. A gynecologist specializes in the care of the female reproductive system, has surgical expertise and manages preventative care and wellness throughout a woman’s life.
In most cases, the education and training for both obstetrics and gynecology occurs at the same time. A trusting relationship with your obstetrician and gynecologist will go a long way toward maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Choosing an OB/GYN
It’s vital that you choose the best provider for your needs; one with whom you feel comfortable and can trust. Here are some helpful questions to ask when choosing an OB/GYN:
Is the office staff friendly and helpful? Do they return calls promptly?
Are the office hours convenient to your schedule?
How easy is it to contact your OB/GYN? Does the provider use email?
Do you prefer an OB/GYN whose communication style is friendly and warm, or more formal?
Do you prefer an OB/GYN focused on disease treatment, or wellness and prevention?
Does the provider order a lot of tests?
Does the OB/GYN refer to other specialists frequently or infrequently?
What do others in your community say about the OB/GYN?
Does the OB/GYN invite you to be involved in your care?
