Ask The Doc - Atrial Fibrillation: What Are My Options? (Indianapolis)
Location: Hilton Garden Inn
5255 Noggle Way
Indianapolis, IN 46237
Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, is a condition where the heart beats irregularly at a high rate. Some people say it feels like a hummingbird fluttering in their chest. When severe, this condition can lead to heart attack or stroke. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that between 3 and 6 million Americans have some form of Afib, most of them age 65 and older. Some people with Afib have no symptoms and don’t even know they have it. But others do have symptoms, some very similar to those of a heart attack, including:
• Irregular heartbeat
• Heart palpitations (rapid, fluttering, or pounding)
• Extreme fatigue
• Shortness of breath
• Chest pain
Fortunately, physicians and surgeons can treat this condition in several ways. Dr. John Moore, cardiologist with Indiana Heart Physicians, and Dr. Andrew Barksdale, vascular surgeon, will discuss signs and symptoms of Afib and the innovative treatment options available. They’ll also provide details about a surgical procedure that, when Afib is diagnosed in the early stages, may permanently correct the heart condition. Come join the doctor for this great session and discussion, especially if you have a family history of heart disease.
Ask the Doc is a 1 to 1 1/2 hour program, led by Franciscan Physician Network physicans, independent physicians and surgeons, focusing on specific heart topics. Each class is committed to a single topic related to cardiac and/or vascular health and includes a presentation as well as class discussion, questions and answers.
