Caterpillar Teens (Ages 13 - 18)
Location: Christ United Methodist Church
8450 US 31 South
Indianapolis, IN 46227
Death is a part of the life cycle, but it’s especially difficult for children to grasp and make sense out of it, particularly when they lose a loved one. That’s why Franciscan Health Hospice offers children their own support groups.
Caterpillar Teens (Ages 13 - 18) is a free four-week support program that offers learning experiences for teens who've experienced the death of a loved one. Activities include participating in storytelling, art projects, games and other sharing opportunities. Parents also are invited to participate in a concurrent session to assist them in supporting their children.
- crafts and refreshments,
- watching a dvd of other children telling about their lost loved one(s),
- opportunities for each child to talk about their loved one(s),
- therapy dogs, a feelings board, feltboards,
- a Butterfly Lady - who displays caterpillars and sometimes butterflies.
Classes meet at Christ United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, one mile north of the Greenwood Park Mall. There is no fee, but registration is required. Groups meet weekly on Wednesdasy from 4:30 to 6 p.m. An adult bereavement group for the family will meet across the hall from the where the children participate. Adults are not required to stay for the adult group.
There is no cost for this support group, but registration is required. To register for the entire four-week series, or for more information on any of our bereavement services or support groups, call Chaplain Karla Riggs Norton (317) 528-2636.
