Franciscan Health Indianapolis will host Walk with a Doc* from Aug. 23 to Oct. 25. This program is meant to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and to reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle geared toward improving societal health and well-being. Our goal is to give community members, as well as our staff an opportunity to walk with our fantastic team of medical professionals for one hour every Thursday this fall.
Each physician or clinical staff member will begin the walk with a short talk about a topic related to their field and then the group walks for the rest of the hour every Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Walkers are encouraged to continue after the initial hour. A snack and water will be provided. All activities will occur, regardless of the weather (unless conditions are deemed dangerous). The walks are free, however online registration is suggested. Updates regarding the program will be provided via email if an address is provided to us.
Walks will take place on our Indianapolis campus Franciscan Fitness Trail, meeting at mile marker 1, on the south side of the campus, directly opposite the Center for Women & Children.
*This program was created by Dr. David Sabgir, a board-certified cardiologist who practices with Mount Carmel Clinical Cardiovascular Specialists in Columbus, OH. The nonprofit program has 148 chapters, mostly in the US, offering free doctor-led walks in parks and malls. To learn more about the national program, visit http://walkwithadoc.org/who-we-are/.
