The mission of the national Walk with a Doc program is to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country.
The program was created by Dr. David Sabgir, a board-certified cardiologist who practices with Mount Carmel Clinical Cardiovascular Specialists in Columbus, OH. The nonprofit program has 148 chapters, mostly in the US, offering free doctor-led walks in parks and malls. To learn more about the national program, visit http://walkwithadoc.org/who-we-are/.
Our goal is to give patients and their families, as well as employees and their families an opportunity to walk with our fantastic team of medical professionals for one hour every Monday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Walks are led by physicians who speak for 3-5 minutes and then walk with the participants for 45-55 minutes. Walkers are encouraged to continue after the initial hour. A snack and water will be provided. All activities will occur, regardless of the weather (unless conditions are deemed dangerous). Updates regarding the program will be provided via email if an address is provided to us. The walks are free, however online registration is suggested.
Walkers can meet at our Franciscan Plainfield Health Center in the main lobby on Monday evenings, 6 to 7 p.m. from April 16 through May 21.
