"Beacon" Shines on Franciscan Health Mooresville Intensive Care Unit
MOORESVILLE, Indiana – The intensive care unit team at Franciscan Health Mooresville has earned the Silver Beacon Award for Excellence presented by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
This designation recognizes the nation's highest performing hospital patient care units for achieving excellence in professional practice, patient care and clinical outcomes.
"Certainly, we are proud of our ICU nursing team for earning this prestigious designation," said Dawn Scott, RN, clinical services director for the Mooresville hospital. "It underscores our commitment in providing the best level of care to the patients we are privileged to serve."
To be eligible for the Beacon Award, units must meet defined criteria in various categories, including:
- Leadership structures and systems
- Appropriate staffing and staff engagement
- Effective communications
- Knowledge management and learning development
- Evidence-based practice and processes
- Outcome measurements
Units such as the Mooresville ICU receiving the award serve as role models to others who are "on their journey to excellent patient and family care," according to AACN officials.
The Silver Beacon Award comes on the heels of other prestigious recognition received by Morgan County’s only full-service hospital. Franciscan Health Mooresville – home of the internationally known Center for Hip & Knee Surgery – recently was named the No. 1 hospital in Indiana and among the nation's top 10 percent for medical excellence in joint replacement care by CareChex®, an information service of Quantros, Inc.
In February, the hospital was touted by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program as a "Silver Safe Sleep Leader" for its commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep.
At the beginning of 2018, the Mooresville hospital was recognized by the Immunization Action Coalition for achieving one of the highest reported rates in Indiana for its work to protect newborns from hepatitis B virus infection.
And as 2017 came to a close, Franciscan Health Mooresville was designated as a Stroke Ready Center by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. This means the hospital staff provides rapid and evidence-based care to acute stroke patients, including the administration of blood clot-busting medication.
