INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Emergency room nurses often have to make swift decisions and their skills are honed by their schooling, training and real-world experience.
Those factors certainly explain how Franciscan Health's ER nurses swept top honors at the 2018 Indiana Emergency Nurses Association's Academic Challenge (IENA). The hospital had two four-person teams, clinching first and third place in a statewide competition hosted by Franciscan Health Indianapolis on November 6.
"This is a Jeopardy-like contest designed to test emergency nursing knowledge," said Vince Corbin, RN, director of Emergency Services at Franciscan Heath Indianapolis. "More than 50 nurses from hospitals in Indiana participated in this event."
Franciscan Health's first-place team consisted of Cynthia Frankel, Joel Domingo, Cassie Cole and Tammy Williams. The third-place team members were Kara Neal, Jen Maupin, Patrice Gehring and Maddison Kellett.
IENA is an organization whose goal is to influence excellence in emergency nursing and emergency care through integration of leadership, education, advocacy, mentoring and collaboration.
