INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Franciscan Health Indianapolis has been named to America's 50 Best Hospitals Awards™ list in 2018 by Healthgrades and is the only hospital in Indiana to earn that distinction.
Healthgrades, an online information and ratings resource for hospital and physicians, reports the Franciscan medical center is in the top 1 percent of hospitals nationally to demonstrate superior clinical outcomes for patients and sustained this performance for at least five consecutive years.
"Our physicians, providers and staff dedicate themselves daily to create a healing environment and accomplish that care in a team-based manner for our patients and their families," said James Callaghan, MD, president and CEO for Franciscan Health. "We are proud to receive this recognition as it reflects on our staff's dedication to our ministry."
The Healthgrades analysis reveals that, on average, America's Best Hospitals outperform their peers in treating a core group of conditions that account for more than 80 percent of mortalities in areas evaluated, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis and stroke
Patients treated in hospitals achieving the America's 100 Best Hospitals Award have, on average, a 22.3 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award. If all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals achieving Healthgrades 2018 America's 100 Best Hospitals Award, on average, 162,284 lives could potentially have been saved.
"Hospitals that have been named an America's 50 Best Hospital by Healthgrades have achieved and sustained high-quality outcomes for their patients over many years and continue to set themselves apart to consumers," said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer for Healthgrades.
Franciscan Health Indianapolis also has achieved the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ for more than seven consecutive years.
