LAFAYETTE, Indiana - Congratulations to Audrey Duley, a long-time Franciscan Health volunteer in Lafayette, for receiving the Marcile Eddy Shining Light Award from the United Way of Greater Lafayette. The award honors local volunteers who have had a significant impact on the community and who have been an inspiration to other volunteers.
Duley, a two time cancer survivor, has volunteered at the hospital since 1978 – only stopping for a short period of time while undergoing cancer treatment. She has held many volunteer positions, but currently volunteers in the gift shop – Heartland Gifts Too! and with Franciscan Hospice Care. During her 40 years of volunteering, Duley has chaired the Home Hospital Fair, served on the Auxiliary board and sewn more than 100 quilts for hospice patients. In addition to her volunteer work at Franciscan Health, Duley also mentors 4-H students through the Tippecanoe Home Economics Club.
"Audrey is a true inspiration. She is always willing to give her time to help, but she shies away from recognition," says Lisa Green, volunteer coordinator at Franciscan Health. "I am so happy to see her be recognized for her hard work and dedication."
Duley received the award on May 2 at the United Way's 22nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon held at the Outpost in Lafayette. As the winner of the Shining Light Award, Duley's name is inscribed on a light house traveling trophy that will be on display at the hospital throughout the year.
Franciscan Health and the United Way also recognized the following volunteers for their service:
