He joins an orthopedic team that specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
Dr. Makowiec most previously was associated with Northwestern Medicine Surgery Center – Orthopaedics in Warrenville, Illinois. He has held various appointments with medical facilities throughout northern Illinois, including Delnor Hospital, Central Dupage Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, The Neurologic and Orthopedic Institute of Chicago and Saint Joseph's Hospital.
Board-certified in orthopedic surgery with a certificated of added qualification in hand surgery, he is a Diplomate with the National Board of Medical Examiners and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Makoweic served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps from 1992 to 2004 and received an honorable discharge.
Widely published in professional journals, he received his undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan and earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, He was an intern in general surgery at the Northwestern University School of Medicine where he later completed an orthopedic surgery residency. Dr. Makowiec also completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis.
He also was a member of the medical staff of the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball in 1999 and has held various academic appointments with Northwestern University School of Medicine and Chicago Medical School.
