INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Insurance coverage is now being accepted as payment for durable medical equipment (DME) needed by patients of the Franciscan Health Cancer Center in both Central Indiana and South-Suburban Chicago.
The Franciscan DME program provides patients with quality care, comfort and mobility through a variety of portable medical devices, including specialized breast forms and post-surgical garments. Patients must provide a prescription and proof of medical necessity from their physician to fulfill an order. Equipment is covered under Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances. Some patients may be eligible for up to 12 mastectomy bras a year.
“We offer top of the line products, which are covered by most insurance carriers,” said Kristen West, certified fitter and gift shop manager of the Oasis Boutique & Gift Shop at the Indianapolis Cancer Center. “We give patients an opportunity to choose whatever they want, similar to any department store or boutique.”
In addition to insurance-covered DME products, the Indianapolis-based gift shop offers:
- Amoena breast prosthetics, pocketed bras, camisoles and swimwear
- Custom-fitted wigs, professional hairstyling, turbans, hats and scarves
- Aromatherapy, skin care creams, facial treatments and free consultations
- Over-the-counter medication and toiletries, including non-metallic deodorant
- Compression socks, slippers and canes
“The Franciscan DME program is fantastic, and I think it is so good for our community,” said West. “The fact that patients come back shows me they’re having great experiences and are happy with it, too.”
