Regain an Active Lifestyle with Help from Franciscan Health Lafayette's Inpatient Rehabilitation Therapy
LAFAYETTE, Indiana - The goal of Franciscan Health Inpatient Rehabilitation Center is to help you achieve your maximum recovery and meet your individual goals. Through treatment, education, family/caregiver training and support, we strive to help you re-establish an active life in your community. To meet these objectives, we offer a comprehensive integrated, interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation program and we help coordinate your transition back home. Our staff is committed to helping you reach your goal and to making your stay as comfortable as possible.
Patients are the most important part of the rehab team. The rehab setting is structured to provide patients and their family with the ability to be actively involved in the rehab program. They will communicate and discuss their goals with the rehab team, participate in planning for life after discharge and attend family conferences, if needed. We expect patients and their family to ask questions, seek information and be the major decision-maker in their care. The rehab team will help guidein setting realistic goals. Patients should know about and agree to any major changes in care plan or goals.
Physician – A physiatrist is a physician who is specially trained in rehabilitation. The physiatrist will be your primary physician and will monitor and direct your care. The physiatrist will work with consulting physicians, nurses, therapists and other team members to develop your program plan, continually assess your progress, order tests and services and discharge you at the end of your program.
Physical Therapy – Through exercises and walking, wheelchair mobility and transfers, the physical therapist will improve your strength, coordination, flexibility and endurance to help you reclaim your life faster.
Occupational Therapy – The occupational therapist teaches new ways to perform everyday activities and assists you with self care, upper body movement, proper positioning and basic home skills so you can live more independently.
Speech Therapy – Our speech pathologists address speech and cognitive problems, as well as swallowing deficits to help eliminate communication and eating barriers that often frustrate patients.
Rehabilitation Nursing – Rehab nurses have received specialized training to handle rehab related medical situations and to minimize or prevent complications, all to assist you in regaining as much independence as possible.
Social Work/Discharge Planning – We begin the discharge plan upon admission. A social worker will work with you and your family to establish your needs - all with the goal of getting you back home.
Other Team Members – rehab case coordinators, insurance reimbursement, respiratory therapy, dietary, spiritual care, hospitalists, specialists and wound care.
The inpatient rehabilitation unit is a wonderful and generous part of Franciscan Health Lafayette. We are looking forward to our move in April to Franciscan Health Lafayette East campus.
