Service In Northwest Indiana Honors Children Who Are Gone, Not Forgotten
HAMMOND, Indiana - Laura Wright, spiritual care services secretary for Franciscan Health Dyer, Hammond and Munster, told a somber and moving story of her experiences in miscarrying two sons, before being able to give birth to another son, now 26 years of age. She was one of three women who related similar experiences during a recent, annual Celebration of Life, an event for families who have experienced a miscarriage.
The Gary Catholic Diocese began the program, which took place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, about 20 years ago. Shown in the foreground are commemorative bricks that have the dates of children who have passed.
Other speakers included Patrick Maloney, president and CEO of Franciscan Dyer, Hammond and Munster; Sister Aloysius Albert, chaplain; Linda Kraiko, senior director of patient services; and the Rev. Theodore Mens, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Griffith.
