As we ring in the New Year at Franciscan Health, we also welcome our first babies born at our hospitals in Indiana and Illinois. Congratulations to all!
The first baby of 2017 born at Franciscan Health Chicago Heights (January 1, 2017 at 12:01 a.m.) is Jace Antoine Lo’Ren McNeil. Jace, who weighed 7 pounds and is 18.5 inches long, is the son of Lauren Thornton and James McNeil of Harvey, Illinois. Families of the first New Year's Day baby born receive a gift basket.
Kasper Otworowski, who came into the world at 1:46 a.m. January 1, became the first child born in the new year in Lake County, Indiana. He is shown at Franciscan Health Dyer with his mother, Monika, of Cedar Lake, before they were joined later by husband, Cezary, and other two sons, Kyle, 8, and Kevin, 6, who would meet their new brother for the first time. Kasper weighed in at 8 pounds, 11.5 ounces and was 20.5 inches in length. “It feels beautiful, beautiful,” Monika said, adding the labor and delivery went quickly. The stuffed, toy bear was a gift from the hospital.
The clock read 12:27 a.m. and Kennedy Aberdeen Long became the first baby born in 2017 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis and in all of Marion County, Indiana. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. Kennedy is the daughter of Bobby and Joanna Long of Martinsville. More than 2,200 babies were born at the Indianapolis hospital by mid-December. More than 50,000 infants have been delivered there since 1995, when the Women and Children’s Services program was consolidated at the 8111 South Emerson Avenue medical campus. The Franciscan Health Center for Women and Children in Lafayette welcomed its first baby of the year on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Paul Dawson was born at Franciscan Health Center for Women and Children at 2:25 p.m. on January 1, 2017. The son of Dr. Robin Tanamachi and Dr. Daniel Dawson, II of West Lafayette, Paul weighed 6 pounds, 2.8 ounces. Both parents are Assistant Professors at Purdue University’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences. For being the first baby of 2017 at Franciscan Health, the family received a gift basket of baby-related items from the Franciscan Health Auxiliary Lafayette and Franciscan Health Gift Shops. The baby was delivered by Dr. Kourtney J. Morris, MD, an OBGYN with Franciscan Physician Network Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Maylee Rae Grady was born at Franciscan Health Center for Women and Children at 4:42 p.m. The daughter of Megan and Tyler Grady of Crawfordsville, Maylee weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces.
For being the first baby of 2017 from Montgomery County, the family received a gift basket of baby-related items from Franciscan Health and the Franciscan Health gift shops.
The baby was delivered by Renee J. Knutson, MD, an OB/GYN with Franciscan Physician Network Obstetrics & Gynecology.
The clock read 4:34 p.m. and Everett David Wayland became the first baby born in 2017 at Franciscan Health Mooresville. He weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. Everett is the son of Kelsey and David Wayland of Danville, Indiana. As a tradition, the hospital presents a gift basket of infant items to the family of the first New Year’s baby. Each time a child is born at the hospital, Brahms Lullaby chimes throughout the hospital via the public address system. In 2016, about 350 babies were born at Franciscan Health Mooresville.
