INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - When customers dined at Bubba's 33 restaurant this fall, they were also feeding a program designed to help families undergoing the rigors of cancer care.
Patrons of the city's southside eatery, located at 7799 South US-31, were encouraged to purchase pink bracelets at $1 each imprinted with "86 Breast Cancer." In turn, the proceeds were shared with Franciscan Health Cancer Center and converted into restaurant gift cards and will be distributed among patients and their families served by the hospital.
The denomination of each card is $10, and oncology social workers and nurse navigators distribute them accordingly to families in need.
In the throes of the COVID-19 crisis and with significantly fewer customers, Bubba workers were able to raise nearly $3,500 in bracelet sales, nearly the same amount as 2019, but with the restaurant at only 50% capacity due to COVID 19.
"Our goal was to meet or exceed our 2019 effort, and thanks to the generosity of our customers and the efforts of our employees we did just that," said Mikayla Patrick, marketing representative for Bubba's 33. "Our partnership with Franciscan Health Cancer Center is important to us and an important way to serve our community."
"This contribution will continue to help the patients and families we are privileged to serve," said Joan Candler Himebrook, community outreach coordinator for the Cancer Center. "Bubba's has helped in other ways; during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the restaurant often provided our hospital staff with fresh food."
