MICHIGAN CITY, Indiana - A combined contribution from CAPTRUST Community Foundation and an anonymous donor to the Franciscan Health Foundation will help local mothers give their babies a healthy start.
The donation to the Foundation's Prenatal Assistance Program includes a grant of $2,500 from the CAPTRUST Community Foundation, an employee-run 501(c)(3) with a mission to enrich the lives of children in local CAPTRUST communities. The CAPTRUST office in Chesterton applied for the grant, which was matched by a private donation to bring the total to $5,000. The money will go toward providing families in need with diapers, baby wipes, sleep sacks, food and other essential supplies.
Kelly Shikany, CAPTRUST vice president and financial advisor, presented the gift to Franciscan Health Michigan City, noting that the cause was a natural for the business' charity foundation.
"The CAPTRUST Community Foundation is all about kids," she said. "This is our community. We live here. We want this to make a difference in Michigan City," added Shikany, who also serves on the Franciscan Health Foundation's Northern Indiana Board of Directors.
Franciscan Health Michigan City President and CEO Dean Mazzoni told Shikany he appreciated CAPTRUST’s generosity to fill an urgent need for so many families. Vice President of Mission Integration Sister Petra Nielsen noted the high costs of the most basic supplies. "When we were doing the diaper drive, and you see how much diapers cost in the store, it was shocking," she said.
