Collaboration Expands Complex Neurosurgery Care To Central Indiana Patients

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Franciscan Health and Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine will soon offer a greatly expanded range of inpatient and ER brain and spine care at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.

The collaboration, effective September 1, 2020, combines the highly respected, long-time clinical and quality outcomes expertise of Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine and the robust resources and dedication to quality of Franciscan Health and the Franciscan Physician Network, benefiting patients in the Midwest and beyond.

"This enables both organizations to provide more complex spine and cranial procedures and care, including the treatment of brain cancer, at Franciscan Health Indianapolis."

Among the new alignments:

Karsten Fryburg, MD, and Daniel Spomar, MD, of Franciscan Physician Network Neuroscience Specialists will join the Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine team, whose offices are located at 555 E. County Line Road, Suite 202, Greenwood. Both physicians are certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and will continue to offer services at Franciscan Health.

While Goodman Campbell recruits for a new full-time neurosurgeon to join the Franciscan team, Drs. John J. DePowell, Charles G. Kulwin, Troy D. Payner, and Saad A. Khairi of Goodman Campbell will provide a range of neurosurgical care at Franciscan Health. Goodman Campbell neurosurgeon Steven James, MD, and pain management specialist, Todd Schmidt, MD, will continue to offer services.

The collaboration also includes the resources of a four-member team of interventional neuro-radiologists from Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine. They will focus on ischemic stroke interventions.

Other Franciscan Physician Network Neuroscience Specialists and their advanced care providers and staff will remain at 8051 South Emerson Avenue, Suite 300, on the Franciscan Health Indianapolis campus. The spine and rehabilitation teams offer a comprehensive clinic that includes diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of spine, as well as physical medicine, rehabilitation of neuromuscular impairments and pain management.
