Donors Keep The Food Chain Moving For Franciscan Health Staff In Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – It takes more than a pandemic to thwart the goodwill of local restaurateurs who are stepping forward to feed the frontline workers and support staff at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.
On Easter Monday, the south Indy Bubba's 33 stepped forward and donated several boxes of fresh produce through a partnership with Piazza Produce of Indianapolis. They also provided Easter baskets filled with fresh fruit, discount cards and other items that were donated to floor units. Later the same day they returned – courtesy of Jen Grogh and Tim and Lori Braden – bringing lasagna and salad which was enough to feed 175 staffers on various medical units, security and communications.
Also recently reaching out to the hospital through Bubba's 33 that Monday was Jen Haughs, providing meals to administration and staff at the Command Center, who are directing Franciscan Health Central Indiana's efforts to treat patients with COVID-19.
"The outpouring of support and generosity of the public who are donating to Franciscan Health is overwhelming and it's a daily occurrence," said Joan Candler Himebrook, community outreach coordinator for Franciscan Health Cancer Center Indianapolis. Himebrook and staffer Joann Henry have been working with the public in accepting donations of food and other items needed at the hospital.
Businesses and individuals have stepped up to the challenge of feeding our healthcare heroes by sponsoring meals to be prepared and delivered by local restaurants. That makes for double duty giving by helping a local restaurant stay afloat and feeding healthcare workers on the front lines.
