MUNSTER, Indiana - Franciscan Health Dyer has named medical/surgical nurse Charlotte as its DAISY Award recipient for April 2021, given to recognize nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care.

A person whose mother had been suddenly hospitalized nominated Charlotte, writing, "My mom was apprehensive as she hasn't been hospitalized many times. When I mentioned how helpful Charlotte was to myself and my Dad her response was, 'oh yes, Charlotte was so sweet! She took such good care of me.' Charlotte is a very competent nurse but her compassion not only for her patients but for the families was above and beyond expectations!"

"I always say that working in the medical field is so important. The job and be learned, but not compassion and empathy...you either have it or you don't. Charlotte definitely has all of it," the nomination continued.

Along with a certificate, Charlotte was presented with a Healer's Touch sculpture. The DAISY Foundation was inspired by nurses' treatment of Patrick Barnes, who died of complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura at the age of 33. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
