Protect Yourself from Stroke

Having a stroke is some people's greatest fear, but there are ways to reduce your risk, starting with your family health history and getting a vascular screening. Dr. Kiell, a vascular surgeon with Cardiac Surgery Associates, will share what people need to know about risk factors and how to manage them. He will also discuss the early signs of "mini-strokes" and surgery options for unblocking the carotid arteries that carry blood to the brain.

Registered dietitian Chrissy Arsenault will guide participants through the healthy diet/healthy lifestyle maze and get them started on the right path. Learn how to diet and exercise – any exercise – work together to help people reach and maintain a healthy weight and control blood pressure, cholesterol and more.

So, how nutrition savvy are you? Boost your knowledge with this class led by Brenda Danner, a registered dietitian with Franciscan Physician Network. Learn how the body uses carbohydrates, protein and fats, and how to manage serving sizes. A lot of the prepared foods contain added salt and sugar. This class helps steers participants clear of them and choose healthier fiber-rich foods.

Registered dietitians Holly Moran and Megan Pope will share healthy menu ideas and planning tips to make dining in the favorite choice any day of the week.
