LAFAYETTE, Indiana - For decades, Franciscan Health Lafayette East has celebrated babies born around the Christmas holiday with special hats and stockings made by their volunteers.

Stockings are larger than average to allow parents to put their new bundle of joy in the stocking for a one-of-a-kind holiday photo.

"We are so thankful for our volunteers who make the hats and stockings, said Ivy Antonia, with the Franciscan Health Center for Women and Children Lafayette. A new baby is one of the best gifts you can receive at the holidays and the stockings are a wonderful keepsake for the families."

Volunteers from the 4M Sewing Group in Linden made more than one hundred stockings this year so that every baby born in the month of December would have the hand sewn keepsake to take home.

In addition to the stockings, babies also receive a red holiday beanie donated by the Close Knit Guild of Lafayette.

Stockings are for photo purposes only – not for babies to sleep in. To encourage safe sleep practices at home, all babies born at Franciscan Health – no matter what month they are born – receive a Halo SleepSack to encourage safe sleep practices.
