Children Cope with Divorce
Divorce is a stressful experience for both parents and children. Franciscan Health Indianapolis offers the Children Cope with Divorce educational program for divorcing parents. It is often required by state courts before a divorce can be granted.
Focusing on Children's Needs After Divorce
Our Children Cope with Divorce program, only offered through Franciscan VNS in Indianapolis and the surrounding central Indiana communities, is a four-hour educational course for divorcing parents that focuses on the needs of children. It is required by the court in which your divorce petition has been filed. After attending the seminar, participants receive a certificate and their attendance will be confirmed in court. Each parent should schedule the class within 30 days of filing for divorce.
Please note: This class is for parents only – children should not be brought to the program and child care is NOT provided.
What to expect from the Children Cope with Divorce program
Qualified professionals including therapists and social workers that specialize in divorce and the effects on children facilitate each seminar. Divorce is a very stressful experience for both parents and children. This seminar will help you:
- Learn about emotional reactions of divorce
- Learn how families experience divorce
- Learn typical reactions of children
- Learn the developmental needs of children
- Pitfalls to avoid
Please note: Online classes are not accepted by the courts in Indiana at this time. The only way to meet the requirements of the court is to attend a class in person.
Classes are offered in the following cities: Indianapolis, Bloomington, Batesville, Shelbyville, Nashville and Noblesville. A Spanish-speaking only class is available in Indianapolis as well.
