INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Blake Averill, MD, CAQSM, has been named medical director for the sports medicine program at Franciscan Health in Central Indiana.

Dr. Averill is a sports medicine doctor with Franciscan Physician Network Sports Medicine Specialists in Indianapolis. He currently serves as head team physician for Roncalli High School and the Noblesville Boom and is an assistant team physician for the Indianapolis Indians and Butler University athletics.

"Our sports medicine program continues to grow, and we are very fortunate to have Dr. Averill leading this charge," said Lori Price, president and CEO for Franciscan Health Central Indiana. Dr. Averill treats a variety of conditions including but not limited to acute and chronic joint pain, stress fractures, overuse injuries, tendon/ligament/muscle injuries and concussion management.

"Dr. Averill has been a valued member of the Franciscan team for several years and is a great choice to serve as the medical director for our sports medicine program," said Sharon Annee, administrative director, orthopedic and neuroscience at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. "We continue to expand the services offered by our sports medicine program and Dr. Averill has a great vision of where the service line is headed in the future."

Dr. Averill received his medical degrees from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in the Franciscan Health Family Medicine Residency program and a fellowship in sports medicine at Ohio State University Hospital.

Franciscan Health Sports Medicine is led by physician specialists and surgeons who are specially trained to treat sports-related injuries in children and adults and offers sports medicine for clients of all ages, grade school to high school, college to professional. Athletes receive training methods and techniques that will lead to athletic and individual improvement.
