Franciscan Health Indianapolis Athletic Trainer, David Jessup, Recognized For Professional Excellence

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - David Jessup, MS, MA, who is affiliated with the Franciscan Health Sports Medicine program, has been selected as a recipient of the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association (IATA) Professional Excellence Award.
A licensed and certified athletic trainer, Jessup is among three selected for the award, which will be presented at the IATA's annual business meeting.
He began his career at Brownsburg High School and spent nearly two decades as an athletic trainer and teacher and solely covered all of the school's sports. In 2008, he became an athletic administrator for the high school and middle school programs yet continued to be active as a trainer, covering events such as the Indiana High School All-Star Football Game.
Jessup later returned to a secondary school setting at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, whose athletic training program is administrated by Franciscan Health. He and another trainer cover 21 sports program.
A native of Spiceland, Indiana, Jessup received his undergraduate degrees in athletic training and health education from Ball State University. He later earned a master's in exercise and health studies from Miami University of Ohio. In 2007, he completed a master's in educational administration from Ball State University.
Franciscan Health athletic trainers provide daily after-school medical coverage for all athletic practices and events. They are responsible for injury evaluation, treatment, and rehab, as well as referring to and working with physicians as needed. The IATA Professional Excellence Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated excellence through their work and service. To be eligible for this award a person must be an Indiana state licensed athletic trainer, be active in advancing and supporting the profession of athletic training, should make contributions to healthcare in Indiana, and be a well-respected member of their community.
