INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Franciscan Health Indianapolis has received the Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

The award recognizes critical care nurses and teams who improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN standards and practices. It marks the second consecutive designation for the hospital's critical care unit.

"This award attests to the hard work, professionalism and dedication of our critical care staff," said Terri Ruff, MS, chief operating officer for Franciscan Health Central Indiana. "Day in, day out, they commit themselves to the patients we are privileged to serve."

The Beacon Award for Excellence is based on the hospital's leadership structures and systems; staff and staff engagement; effective communication; knowledge management and learning and development; evidence-based practice and processes; and outcome management.

"Being recognized as a Beacon unit, especially while working to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores Franciscan's overall commitment to caring for patients and their families," said AACN President Amanda Bettencourt, PhD. "This team should be proud of setting such a high standard."
