MISHAWAKA, Indiana - A discharge from the hospital or a doctor's visit can come with lengthy instructions and medication list needed for recovery at home. Being able to fill the prescriptions before leaving, is one less worry for a patient and their caregivers.

Providing patients with convenient and personalized service, the outpatient retail pharmacies are located within five Franciscan Health hospitals – Crown Point, Lafayette, Indianapolis, Michigan City and Olympia Fields. A sixth outpatient pharmacy recently relocated to the Franciscan Physician Network Hammond Clinic in Munster.

Both patients and members of the community can use the outpatient pharmacies, which accept most insurance plans. They offer competitive pricing, the ability to transfer prescriptions and are the preferred, tier-one pharmacy for Franciscan Alliance employees.

"Our mission is to provide personalized, compassionate care to those patients we serve. We focus on the patient and building relationships," said Denise Garner, manager of retail pharmacy services at Franciscan Health.

Another advantage at the hospitals is the pharmacies' bedside delivery service, where needed prescriptions are delivered to the patient's room. "Our pharmacy staff work with providers to ensure patients receive their discharge medications. We focus on easing the transition from the patient's hospital stay to their home so they can focus on rest and recovery," Garner said. "We work directly with the patient's provider to resolve any insurance coverage issues or affordability concerns. Our pharmacy teams go the extra mile to care for each patient."

Joshua Bitner, administrative director – Ambulatory Pharmacy Services, said the bedside delivery service reduces readmission rates by making sure patients both receive and understand the medication they are being prescribed.

Along with prescriptions, immunization, medication therapy management and durable medical equipment sales are other services provided by the pharmacies.

"We offer a variety of services to not only our patients within our hospitals, but also the community, extending the personalized, compassionate care to them as well," Garner said. "Our outpatient pharmacies are recognized for their customer service to all those we serve. Our pharmacy teams exemplify our Franciscan values by providing compassionate care, joyful service and Christian stewardship. Our pharmacists and technicians are committed to providing exceptional patient care."
