Surgeons Begin Training With Franciscan Physician Network Indiana Colon And Rectal Specialists

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Franciscan Physician Network Indiana Colon & Rectal Specialists, in conjunction with the Indiana University School of Medicine, have welcomed two new physicians to the colon and rectal fellowship.

Stephanie Peters, MD, and Elizabeth Roesler, MD, began their fellowship training this month. Dr. Peters grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated from the University of Notre Dame. She earned her medical degree at the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed her residency in general surgery at the Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois.

Dr. Roesler also grew up in the Chicago suburbs and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She earned her medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed her residency training in general surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria.

These two candidates were selected after reviewing more than 90 applications and interviewing 20 candidates for the two positions. The colon and rectal residency program was established in 2008 as an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education through a partnership between Indiana University Franciscan Health.

Individuals who successfully complete this program meet the qualifying requirements for certification by the American Board of Colon Rectal Surgeons. The teaching staff is comprised of surgeons with the practice and assistant clinical professors with the IU School of Medicine's Department of Surgery.
