Overview
The AHA’s BLS Provider Course is designed for healthcare providers and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of settings or for those in a healthcare training program. The course teaches basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and pre-hospital settings, with a focus on high-quality CPR, improvement of chest compression fraction, and high-performing team dynamics. The BLS Provider Course teaches rescue techniques for adults, children and infants.
In the BLS Provider Course, students will learn and practice:
- High-quality BLS for adults, children and infants
- Use of an AED
- Effective ventilation using a barrier device
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for adults, children and infants
- High-performance teams
Requirements
This class is appropriate for healthcare professionals, students in a healthcare field or anyone who works in direct contact with patients. Classes are open to the public and no healthcare experience is required. Classes for non-healthcare providers are also available.
Franciscan Health offers two different course format options: Blended Learning & Traditional Classroom.
BLENDED LEARNING: Learners complete an online BLS class, which is approximately 2 hours in length, and then attend an individual, in-person skills check-off appointment with an AHA BLS instructor. Upon successful completion of both the online and in-person requirements, learners will be issued a BLS Provider certification.
TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM: Learners attend an in-person class with an AHA BLS Instructor. Upon successful completion of the in-person class, which includes a skills assessment and written exam, participants will be issued a BLS Provider certification.
The cost for both the blended learning and traditional class options is $65.
