Rotations

• Surgery - You will work with the surgical team and your day can range from 7:00 a.m. at the earliest to 6:00 p.m. at the latest.
• Anesthesiology - Anesthesiologists perform a multitude of services within the hospital. They can provide general anesthesia, like a classical orientation, epidurals and spinals in labor and delivery, nerve blocks throughout the hospital and in pre-op, and general sedation for procedures like colonoscopies.
• Emergency Department - Our Emergency physicians are not employed by the hospital and may rotate between several hospitals in the area. You will round with a different attending physician for each shift. ER shifts are typically 11AM-9PM or 9PM to 6AM.
• Administration - These rotations will typically be from 8AM to 5PM. You will have the opportunity to spend time with directors and senior management to gain understanding of how different positions coexist to produce quality healthcare and potential projects you may assist on.
• Hospital Medicine - These individuals are Family Practitioners or Internal Medicine physicians who care for the hospital inpatients. Work schedules are typically seven days on and seven days off with shifts either being 7AM - 7PM or vice versa.
• Infectious Disease - Infectious disease is a subspecialty of internal medicine, which deals with the care of patients with problems that have an infectious etiology. Dress for this rotation is business professional.
• Cardiology - During this rotation you may round with patients in the outpatient cardiology clinic, triage and perform physical exams, as well as performing stress tests, EKGs, transesophageal echos, etc.
• Gastroenterology (GI) - Gastroenterology is a heavy procedural specialty and you may find that most of the day preforming endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures in the outpatient center in the hospital.
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - In this rotations you will work with neonatal issues, the most common being premature infantile respiratory distress syndrome. You may also inspect new births, enter the operating room for C-sections or patient rooms for vaginal deliveries.
• Labor and Delivery - This one of the most unique rotations that you will experience as you will not be assigned to a specific attending physician but rather be working with many different providers to treat expecting mothers and observe or assist in delivery.
• Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) - An ENT practice has a large volume or outpatient clinical examinations. You may be assisting and observing with examinations or a variety of surgical procedures.
• Radiology - Your rotations here may vary based on who you are paired with. Your day could include reading and diagnosing CTs, MRIs, X-Rays, Barium studies, etc. or working with a specialist to review mammograms, perform ultrasounds and X-Ray guided biopsies.
