Surgical Technology Program

Overview

The University of Saint Francis (USF) is proud to announce a new Surgical Technology program partnership at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. This expansion builds upon the success of our established programs in Fort Wayne and Crown Point, bringing high-quality surgical technology education to the heart of Indiana in our capital city.

This Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology program combines online academic coursework with in-person laboratory and clinical experiences. Through this hybrid model, you'll benefit from the flexibility of online learning while gaining hands-on experience in a real surgical environment at Franciscan Health.

Program Highlights:

  • Complete your degree in just 17 months
  • Flexible full- or part-time options in early semesters
  • Courses begin each Spring semester
  • Didactic instruction online, labs and clinicals in person
  • Graduates sit for the National Certification Exam
  • Strong job outlook: starting salaries typically range $50,000-$55,000
  • Employment opportunities in hospitals, birthing centers, clinics, and more

USF's program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the ARC-STSA. Our students consistently perform above the national average on certification exams, a testament to the strength of our academic and clinical instruction.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to prepare you for success as a critical member of the surgical team. You'll complete rigorous training in surgical procedures, patient care, anatomy, pharmacology, and more. Clinical rotations will take place during the day, and you'll be expected to complete at least 120 surgical cases- 90 of which must be in the first scrub role- to meet core curriculum standards.

Application Process

We accept a limited number of students into this program. Whether you're a recent high school graduate or a transfer student, your application will be reviewed individually by our Surgical Technology Admissions Committee. Specific academic requirements and eligibility details are available at majors.sf.edu/surgical-technology.

If you're ready to pursue a rewarding and in-demand career, we encourage you to apply or reach out with questions.
